COLLINS VOTES FOR SELECT COMMITTEE ON BENGHAZI

Northeast Georgia’s Congressman: “This administration continues to require incredibly extensive oversight.”

WASHINGTON, [May 8] – Congressman Doug Collins (GA-09) voted this evening for H. Res.  567, the measure formally creating a Select Committee to investigate the events of September 11, 2012 in Benghazi.

Congressman Collins, a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, has been a part of the continuing investigation into Benghazi since he took office at the start of the 113th Congress, three months after the attack.  Congressman Collins said:

We have to know what happened in Benghazi.  We have to know how and why four American lives were lost, how and why our sovereign soil in Libya was violated, and how and why President Obama’s administration has obstructed the effort to find these answers. Empowering a special select committee with all of the enforcement powers to get these answers now is the right step at the right time.”

Collins concluded, “This administration continues to require incredibly extensive oversight.  As those of us on the Oversight Committee are meeting this need on every front, from Benghazi to the IRS to the shocking abuses at other federal agencies, the establishment of this Select Committee shows the American people that their Congress is doing everything in its power to keep their government accountable.”

The House vote on H. Res. 567, Providing for the Establishment of the Select Committee on the Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi, was 232-186.
