Collins Speaks to Northeast Georgia in Wake of Hurricane Irma

WASHINGTON—Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) continues to receive updates on Hurricane Irma’s impacts on northeast Georgia. Collins and members of Georgia’s congressional delegation wrote to President Trump today to request expedited approval for disaster assistance to mobilize recovery efforts across the state.

“As our communities begin to recover from Hurricane Irma, I encourage my neighbors to follow guidance provided by the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency. First responders remain active in promoting safety, and hardworking men and women are bringing power back to northeast Georgia homes. The victims of Hurricane Irma continue to fill my thoughts and prayers,” said Collins.

All 159 Georgia counties remain in a state of emergency. Approximately 150,000 northeast Georgians are without electricity while linemen work to restore power to homes throughout the area.

The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency provides updated resources related to weather forecasts, traffic information, shelter locations and other issues surrounding Hurricane Irma.

Information on disaster resources available through FEMA is available here, and the USDA also offers programs to individuals and small businesses in rural areas impacted by the storm.
