Rabun County Student Admitted to West Point
GAINESVILLE, Ga.—Nominated by Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), Rabun Gap student Gavyn Jones has been admitted to the United States Military Academy.
“Gavyn’s discipline in the classroom and on the field will enable him to serve our country well as part of the U.S. Army,” said Collins, “and I’m proud Northeast Georgia continues to produce the gifted young people that the military academies are looking for.”
The high school senior is set to attend West Point in the fall. The son of Mr. Oakley and Mrs. Kelly Jo Jones, Gavyn serves as captain of Rabun County’s football team and is involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, 4H and other extracurricular activities. He is enrolled in AP courses and is in the top five percent of his class.
