Press Release

GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Today, Congressman Doug Collins and Brigadier General Joe Jarrard presented a Purple Heart medal to Sergeant Jason Abercrombie of the Georgia Army National Guard. After the ceremony, which was held at Collins’ Gainesville office, Congressman Collins issued the following statement:

“Today we honor the courage and sacrifice of Sergeant Abercrombie, who has served his country bravely in Afghanistan with the Georgia Army National Guard. I am humbled to present him this award for his valor on the night of February 9, 2010,  when a suicide bomber attacked his company’s living quarters. Sergeant Abercrombie stayed on the scene to see to the injuries of other wounded soldiers, despite having his own shrapnel wounds. Using his civilian medic background, he saw to the injuries of others in his unit first, including stabilizing and evacuating a soldier who was badly wounded and required immediate medical attention. Brigadier General Jarrard and I are proud to award this medal to Sergeant Abercrombie for his strength and fortitude, and his selfless dedication to his fellow soldiers.”
