Collins Supports Bill to Curb Civil Asset Seizure by IRS
WASHINGTON—Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) defended the Clyde-Hirsch-Sowers RESPECT Act on the House floor today. Collins is an original co-sponsor of the bill, H.R. 1843, which was inspired in part by the story of Andrew Clyde, a resident of Georgia’s Ninth District.
In 2013, the IRS seized Clyde’s bank account without charging him with any crime. Collins has worked to draw attention to the IRS’s abuse of power through civil asset forfeiture. His comments are available here.
