Collins Receives Torchbearer Award for Religious Freedom
GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) today received the Torchbearer Award from the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty for his commitment to fighting for the religious freedom of our nation’s servicemembers.
"It’s an incredible honor to be presented with the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty’s Torchbearer Award. As a pastor and an Air Force chaplain, I’ll always fight to protect each and every Americans’ right to freely exercise their religion,” Collins said.
"Representative Collins has been a stalwart defender of religious liberty, often working behind the scenes, to ensure military members may worship God freely,” President of Chaplain Alliance and retired Navy Chaplain Capt. Craig Muehler said.
"Representative Collins happens to be my personal Representative, so it is a great pleasure to present this award to him here in his hometown. Representative Collins has never refused a call for help when religious liberty has been threatened,” Col. Ron Crews, Executive Director of Chaplain Alliance said.
"Representative Collins has committed his life to the cause of religious freedom for our military, first as a chaplain, and then as a Member of Congress. He personifies the kind of tireless warrior who is deserving of the Torchbearer Award,” General Counsel for First Liberty Institute Mike Berry said.
The Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty is an organization made up of faith groups that provide chaplains for the U.S. military and other agencies. This organization represents over 2,600 chaplains serving the armed forces.
Collins is a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and the only military chaplain serving in Congress.
