Collins: Our Troops Deserve Better
WASHINGTON—Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 2500, National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
“For nearly six decades, Congress has come together and put politics aside to protect our national security. This week, House Democrats changed the course of history and turned their backs on our troops by bringing a hyper partisan bill to the floor. H.R. 2500 will hurt our men and women in uniform and jeopardize their ability to keep us safe by cutting military personnel accounts, opening the door to shut down Guantanamo Bay and move dangerous terrorists to U.S. soil, and slashing programs critical to deter China and Russia. Our troops deserve better.”
Earlier this week, Collins offered an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that would ensure convicted terrorists and others who have levied war against the United States are not eligible to receive reduced sentences as a result of good behavior while incarcerated. Democrats rejected the amendment.
Last week, the Senate passed their NDAA with strong bipartisan support of 86-8.
